The Internet is all for user friendly applications. It promotes the use of information to improve and simplify our lives. The Daily Telegraph recently posted a list of the 101 most “useful” websites. The “A” list of Internet application. The list is interesting and brought to my attention a number of helpful websites. The most useful website listed was of course Google, the super search engine which in addition to search capabilities provides a number of useful functions including GoogleDocs, GoogleMaps, GoogleMail and more.
The second most useful, and this surprised me, was http://anonymouse.org, a site which allows users to surf the Internet anonymously. By entering the IP address of the site you wish to visit Anonymouse opens the website, withholding your personal information including your IP, Host, Browser and OS.
It is surprising that this site was rated so highly, aside from the freedom to visit any website without leaving behind personal information, the site offered little additional value. It is not a search engine and does not allow you to enter a keyword or search phrase. Using the site requires that you enter an IP address for example http://www.intowebmarketing.co.za/ then hit surf anonymously. It also takes some time to open the desired page.
Amongst other useful sites listed were ilounge.com (hints, tips and troubleshooting for ipods) and only 2 clicks (allows you create a home page that lets you link to all your favourite websites).
