Pop-up ads worked at the beginning of the Internet. Frankly, they are just annoying now. Everybody buys software to block pop-up ads and most browsers have the built-in feature to block annoying pop-up ads. People don’t read the pop-up ads anymore and are too afraid of virusses to even click them. In addition pop-up ads will slow the loading time of a page and take up bandwidth. The servers where pages with many pop-up ads lie, are frequently down because of them. Major players such as AOL have decided not to allow pop-up ads anymore. It is an overused medium for advertising which is now simply annoying to the user. If you don’t mind annoying people it is fine, but if you are interested in gaining traffic, sales, and credibility avoid pop-up ads for advertising.

I thought this was a cute attempt sway publishers and advertisers from using popups. Although I tend to disagree I think there will always be profit in it to a certain degree for still a while before they fade completely as a advertising media.
