One of the services we provide for all of the websites hosted by ourselves is an analytics tool. View Stats enables you to monitor and track the visitors to your site, enabling you to plan your Internet marketing all the better. In case you are unfamiliar with some of the terms, here is a short explanation:
- Bounce rate – this is the percentage of visitors who have been to your home page and left without looking at any other pages.
- Unique visitor – a first time visitor who has followed at least one internal link from your home page
- Return visitors – a person who has visited your website before and is returning again
- Visits – Total number of visits (unique and return)
- Duration of session – the total length of time a visitor has spent on the website
- Entry page – the page where a visitor entered your website.
- Exit page – the page from which a visitor left your website
- Bandwidth – the total number of bytes downloaded from a particular page or from the whole website
- File type – the type of file that received a hit – this could be an image or txt file. For example, you can track which product images have been looked at.
- Spiders and Robots – programs from search engines that index your pages. These are not included in "visits"
- Browsers – which browsers were used to look at your website (this information can help with the future design of your website
- Operating system – the system (eg Windows XP , Vista, Linux) used by a particular visitor
- Host – the IP address whence a visit originated
- Country – the country whence a visit originated
- Links from external pages – links that directed visitors to your site
- Direct hits – visits where the user has typed your URL address into the address bar
- Hits – total number of clicks made during a session
- Links from a newsgroup – visits that came through a link at a newsgroup
- Links from search engines – visits that came from a keyword search such as Google
- Search keyword and Key phrases – what keywords were used to direct a search visitor to your site
- Add to favourites – the number of visitors who have bookmarked your website
In addition to the above terms, you can see monthly, weekly, daily or even hourly visits. This information can be used for planning Internet marketing and site maintenance.
